A war child who grew up to paint happiness.

Hedi At Laney Art Exhibition With Her Drawing Titled OverTime

I was born in the middle of the Iran-Iraq war. I am Iranian. My family lived in a tent for a couple of months in winter, and later moved to a small town with closed-minded people, where we never fit in. But we couldn't leave either.

For years, I had no friends growing up, so I spent most of my childhood alone, noticing colors, details, and everything around me. Art helped me cope, and I built myself a little world to live in.

When I wanted to study art, my family had other plans for me, they wanted me to study mathematics. I started suppressing my creativity, but here and there, I made things for myself.

For years, I worked jobs that never felt right. A big part of me was trapped in the void, waiting for its freedom.

Eventually, I started listening to myself. Now art is my career, and I'm figuring it out as I go.

Some of my early work explored recent events in my country, but the things I saw took a toll on my mental health. So I chose a different path.

Now, as an Iranian-American artist, I make art that's cozy, colorful, and easy to feel.

Art that doesn't need paragraphs of explanation to understand. I want people to look at my work and feel something warm right away, a little pause, to feel comfort and joy.

That's the world I'm building now and I'd love for you to be part of it.
